Veteran's Day Reflections

Before I was a Soldier's Wife...

I never lived thousands of miles from home.

I never felt more comfortable on an Army post than off.

I never smiled at the sight of those ACU's.

I rarely spent a night alone.

I never truly understood what my grandparents sacrificed "way back when."

I never endured static-y phone calls just to hear his voice.

I never truly understood the sacrifice that some soldiers have made.

I never made friends so quickly...just so I'd have a surrogate family.

I never cried when I had a missed call on my cell phone.

I never cried at the sight of the flag being raised while hearing The Star Spangled Banner.

I never cried when someone did something nice for our troops.

I never worried about being home in time to catch him online.

I never cried while listening to a simple country song about the USA.

I didn't know what it was like to send a husband off to war.

I didn't know what it felt like to worry and wonder what happens "over there."

I never felt such pride for my husband and our country.

So much has changed since I became a Soldier's wife. But, I have never been so proud to call this man my husband.

Deployment is hard; being married to the military is tough. But it is the most rewarding and amazing thing I've ever been a part of. I am proud to be a Soldier's wife.

The last time we were mere feet apart.

On this Veteran's day, I am so thankful for the sacrifice that the men and women in our military make every single day. I am thankful for the men and women who gave their lives so that we could be safe and enjoy our God-given rights. I am thankful for the men and women who have served our military in the past.

I know most of my readers are milspouses, but I think we should all take the time to say "thank you" to the men and women who sacrifice so much for us.

P.S. Don't forget to start sending me your photos for this week's Fall Foto Contest!
