There's this system in the military, not unlike the buddy system we're taught in elementary school. The idea is this: Find a buddy and stick with them for the rest of the day/trip/week/whatever. It's basically the same in the military except they're
battle buddies. Our spouses have them - guys they trust, guys they choose to hang out with, guys they know will back them up if they should ever need it.
Since the first day I became an Army wife, this guy has been
my battle buddy.
It may seem silly to you, but he's been there for me every step of the way.
He lets me hold him when I cry. He
runs and hides gives me space when it's time for me to get mad and yell. =) He sits on the couch with me. He greets me at the door with jumping and lots of puppy kisses. He follows me to the bathroom, laundry room, kitchen, bedroom, you name it. He likes to walk with me to get the mail. He sleeps on the bed...when I let him. He cuddles with me after breakfast. He brings his toys to me so we can play [whether I want to or not]. He sits under the desk chair when I'm blogging or sewing.
Most importantly, he makes me laugh. I don't think he ever does it on purpose, but his timing of silly antics are usually perfect - just when I need it most.
I apologize for all the shaking and laughing. I told you, he times it perfectly. I was laughing so hard I was literally crying... And usually when he runs back and forth like that, I have the door to the spare bedroom open.
He's stuck by me just like a good battle buddy. He can't talk, he can't bring me goodies, or anything any one person could do. But I think he makes a really good battle buddy...even if he does eat off the floor and use the great outdoors as his bathroom. ;-)

ReplyDeleteI think animals are great buddies... because they listen to you no matter what, and generally they know when something is wrong.
ReplyDeleteHe is such a sweet puppy!
