That's right. Miss Charlotte will be here in one. week! Which is why I've been spending most of my time nesting cleaning like a crazy person. My main goal for last week was "de-cluttering" the house. I'm kind of a clutter person... It really just happens and I don't know how to make it stop! Piles of paper/mail here and there; piles of clean clothes in the laundry room and our bedroom; baskets of dirty laundry... You name it, it has happened in my house. Not usually all at the same time, but it does happen. And for a few weeks, if you'd walked into my kitchen you would have seen a big box of "stuff to get rid of" in the middle of the floor. Not pretty. Then there are the dreaded storage closets...
So I tackled almost all of that last week. By Friday, most of the house had been de-cluttered and all I had left was the storage closet. And I totally overdid it on the storage closet. =P I took out a whole bunch of stuff from the outside one {which was originally supposed to be for a garage sale} and piled it in the car to take to Goodwill. It took me a good 2 hours to get everything out, organized and put in the car, but I did it! And then I paid the price in the form of a few contractions. Smart, right!?
But it didn't stop there... I had a whole list of things for Joe to do this weekend. I really felt bad for asking him to do so much, but I can't do all that I want to do by myself. And, hey, if he's not going to be here during the week to help, that's what he gets! ;-) Just kidding. I know he'd much rather be here tackling my "honey-do" list than "playing Army" and staying in the barracks all week.
Thankfully, by the end of Saturday afternoon he completed my list. =) Well, mostly. There's still one big box that needs to find its way to Goodwill {I can't lift it} and the grass very seriously needs to be cut. But those can be done later.
This week, my goal is to do as little as possible, pack our bags and just keep the house picked up. This is always easier with only one person in the house. {Am I right?!} So all I really have to worry about is getting through the weekend...with a clean house. ;-)
And just as proof that she's really coming soon, I got to spend my afternoon here:
No worries, though! The people in the NST office freaked out a little because her heart rate dropped. In all actuality, though, her heart rate was just going back down to normal after having been high for a while. And it took a 30 min NST and 1.5 hours in L&D to determine this. Sigh. Better safe than sorry, I know, but 2 hours of monitoring is a lot...and uncomfortable.
Question for you mommies out there: What do I really need to pack in my hospital bag? {For me and for baby.}
And holy cow... One. Week.
Omgoodness! One week! Wow. I am so excited and happy for you both.
ReplyDeleteI seriously cried last night thinking about you guys. I miss you so much! Especially now. I am really glad you are feeling ready though, as far as the house and all - feels great to have all that stuff cleaned out, doesn't it? :)
ReplyDeleteAs for the hospital bag, the first thing that popped to my mind was chapstick - it is so stinking dry in there with all the recycled air, plus some of the meds dried me out too. Outside of that, don't forget nursing bras, makeup (trust me, you just feel better after that first shower and a little makeup!), an eye mask if you have it (nurses coming in and flicking on lights right while you are sleeping!), and of course your phone/camera/computer so I can get hourly pics of that girl! :)
I was stupid and packed CDs, DVDs, and books thinking I was gonna have time for any of that. Ha. Anytime I wasn't nursing or eating, I was sleeping! Oh, and bring your own pillow if you are particular about it. And slippers too!
And don't worry, anything you forget can be remedied by your loving husband!!! :D
Wow, one more week! You are in the home stretch!
ReplyDeleteI think a good idea to take to the hospital is pj's! You feel so much better when you are in your own clothes! And not sure if you said you were nursing or not but another good thing to have is nursing cream, if you are. I didn't with my first but did with my second and it was so much better!
As for the baby, the hospital I delivered at had everything we could/would need so I just took their going home clothes and that was it.....oh and their car seat.
Yay, your little girl will be here in a week! =) Good luck... I started packing my bag and I am bringing chapstick, at least 2 nursing bras, a pillow and blanket and going home outfits for you and the baby! I also packed pads just in case but I'll most likely use what the hospital offers me.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you!
ReplyDeleteYay!!
ReplyDeleteBe sure to pack your phone, camera, chargers, batteries, etc. You will want to take LOTS of pictures :)
I packed a few pj's for me, shower stuff, things to fix my hair, make-up, flip flops (to shower in because I am weird like that), socks, nursing bras & pads, going home clothes. For baby I bring sleepers, swaddling blanket, pacifiers, clothes, socks, hat, mittens, burp cloths, wipes (I don't recall the hospital having wet wipes, just dry cloths you need to get wet in the sink).
When they do the first bath grab the soap and brush if you can. Also take the nose bulb thingy - you can use that at home! We came home with diapers too :)
P.S. Don't forget to have Joe bring a bag for himself. He will probably want to take a shower and change clothes too.
ReplyDeleteYay! It's getting so close.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! Almost go-time for you! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll second what a lot of other people said- camera, charger, your toiletries for the after-baby shower. I am also trying to remember to pack a bunch of snacks this time. Mostly for Steve, but I remember the hospital food I had last time being pretty gross, so I think some granola bars might help me out too. ;)
As a side note, most hospitals will offer you the items that are stocked in your baby's bassinet- diapers, dry wipes, formula, bulb syringe, etc. TAKE IT ALL. Even if you don't plan on ever using an ounce of formula, TAKE IT. You may never know when you're in a pinch and need it. And that stuff is wicked expensive. And extra diapers, well, it never hurts to have extras. I didn't take everything out of my son's bassinet and the nurses informed me that they throw most of it away (I guess it isn't considered "sterile" anymore.), so it's better to take it and possibly use it than to have it all end up in the garbage!
Relax and enjoy your last week of peace and quiet! :D
Boppy Pillow. Huge help.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. :) I don't like those NSTs. Sit?! for that long?!
ReplyDeleteSweet baby. You must be so excited.
Oh boy 1 week! Can't wait to see the pictures of the sweet little girl :)
ReplyDeleteHospital bag, pack a couple comfy nursing bras and some nursing pads. You're milk will take a couple days to fully come in but when it does its better to be prepared for overflow. Any normal toiletries you'd take on an overnight trip, and some comfy pjs. I got out of the hospital gown as soon as possible. I also make sure to bring my own pillow and if you've bought one it won't hurt to bring your boppy pillow for nursing. Make sure not to forget going home outfit for you as well as baby. Bring any passies or other small comfort item you're hoping she'll like but don't worry about diapers or wipes. The hospital will provide plenty of those so keep your stash at home. And of course you can't forget your camera to capture all those precious moments!
Definitely bring chapstick. Also, I would recommend snacky foods - depending on what time you deliver, they might not have any food to give you (my friend gave birth at 2am and they didn't have food to give her until breakfast came around at 7am - she was STARVING). Make sure your hubby packs a bag too. And don't forget your toothbrush!
