Lovey Dovey Day

Ah, Valentine's Day. A day for the love birds.

I have never been over the moon excited about Valentine's Day. As a kid, it was fun to hand out little Valentines to my friends {and crushes, of course!} at school. As a teenager who was single more often than not, I grew to care less and less about it. My sophomore or junior year of high school, I actually did get flowers at school...from "Secret Admirer" who I'm still pretty sure was one of my parents feeling sorry for me. They still won't tell me, though. =P

Though I have zero pictures from the day, my favorite/best Valentine's day was the first one Joe and I spent together. Until I really started thinking about it the other day, I'd almost forgotten what he'd done that day!

That particular semester, Joe was in a class called Opera Workshop. It's pretty much like you'd think it would be...preparation for opera. The professor in charge of the class decided to do some sort of fundraiser {I have no idea what exactly the money was for now} where people could "hire" the singers in the class to sing for their Valentine. I think it cost something like a dollar - a ridiculously small amount. Well, Joe decided he'd hire his class out to sing to me. =) He, his class and members of the jazz band caught me in the lobby of the Math/Science building in between classes and serenaded me. *swoon*

That night, he came over to my house and we celebrated a little bit more. If I remember correctly, I got him a cute coffee mug {which we still have} and filled it with little Reese's cups and a card. He completely outdid me and got me a really cute little card, a teddy bear and - wait for it - an iPod.

Apparently, I had been going nuts over his and saying how much I'd love one. Honestly, I never in a million years expected that. {And I'm pretty sure I told him over and over again for at least the next 2 weeks how he shouldn't have spent so much money.} He helped me get it all set up with my favorite music and "naming" it on iTunes. What I couldn't figure out was how it had the same "name" as his iPod! It was so weird... But he said that he'd plugged it in to his computer to make sure it was working or something and it "took" his iPod's name. He's way more computer savvy than I am, so I took his word for it. It wasn't until several weeks later that I noticed he hadn't had his iPod recently. I don't remember when I asked him, but eventually I realized that he gave me HIS iPod!! Now that is love, folks. ;-)

And that was our biggest V-Day to date. The next year we both worked, the year after that we were newlywed and broke, the next we went to NC for the weekend and I got flowers afterward....then he was deployed. This year, we have no big plans. In fact, he'll probably be working late. I'm planning on making a nice steak dinner, but that's the extent of it. I really wasn't expecting anything this year {nor did I ask for anything}, but I got these beauties on Saturday after our date-day. =)

I loooooooove tulips!!!! Clearly, my hubby knows me very well. I'm in love with these. Last year I got hot pink ones and these year, I got a mix of light pink and red! I love it. =)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope you have a great day whether you're pro- or anti-Valentine's Day. ;-)

  2. That's so sweet! When hubby and I were dating we celebrated Valentine's day, but all that has changed since we got married. Our anniversary is actually on the 16th (not the original plan, but we thought he was going to deploy on the original date we had set for later in the year) so now we celebrate for the kids and save the big stuff for 2 days later :)
