Finally, finally, finally we are moving!!!!
After a ridiculously long time, we found out yesterday when UCB (unaccompanied baggage) will be picked up (ASAP!), when they will pack and move our HHG (household goods), and when we fly to GA!
Why did we just now find out, you ask? Well...let's just blame it on the Army. Joe's current unit continues to rely on him to do training and extra duties even though we're PCSing, and even though he's not deploying with them. It's dumb, really. These people are going to have to get used to not having him there! Saying this makes it seem like he's a much bigger deal than he might actually be, haha! The fact of the matter is, though, that a lot of people are PCSing soon and the new commander is, well....stubborn, for lack of a more accurate term. ;-) He's been working long hours and has hardly had a chance to do any PCS-related things. And it's not like I can do them for him! Needless to say, we're ready to get outta here! And in a little over a month, that's exactly what we'll be doing!!
Things I'm looking forward to:
- Being on the mainland - FINALLY!
- Being in the same-ish time zone as my family & friends.
- Shopping at Hobby Lobby!!!!!!!
- Eating at Chick Fil A more than once a year.
- Being able to drive. (And end up in another state.)
- Not being surrounded by water.
- Experiencing seasons again. (I know it's early, but I'm ready for FALL!)
- Not flying anywhere.
Things I'm not looking forward to:
- Flying to GA. (I can't explain how much I loathe flying.)
- Being without our stuff for 2ish months.
- Living out of suitcases.
- Not being able to cook.
- Living in a hotel.
- Being without our car for at least a month.
- Being surrounded by boxes.
- Flying with a baby. Again. {Do you see the pattern here?}
All in all, I'm not a huge fan of moving. But I am most definitely a fan of where the moving process will take me! I'm not ready for the inconveniences, but I am definitely ready to get off this rock!
Are you PCSing soon? Are you excited or dreading it?
When we moved to Okinawa, my husband went first, and the kids and I came later. I flew from the midwest to Oki with 2 stops, with 2 kids and a dog. My youngest was 19 months. In Tokyo, I had to get the dog off the plane, deal with all that paperwork, then get all 4 of us back on a plane. I will never fly alone with my children. Ever. And they weren't even that bad. Don't let your husband out of your sight.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has a possible duty station in Hawaii in a few years. I have told him I really don't want to live there for the reasons you stated. I think I would get island fever.
ReplyDeleteWe are looking at 2 moves in the next 6-7 months. The first one is only an hour away, but the second one is a few days of driving. I am not looking forward to having two dogs, a 3 year old, and a six month old in the same car. I am looking forward to the destination, but not the moving part.
So excited for you!!!! :) The reasons you listed are the reasons we turned down pcs'ing to Hawaii.
ReplyDeleteWe're moving this summer. Mac had been in his battery for over two and a half years (including deployment). They just couldn't let him go or function without him. They finally moved him to a job at battalion once he was promoted. Good luck with the move!
ReplyDeleteYeah! and YEAH For shopping at Hobby Lobby! ;)

Yay for finally moving! That's so exciting but it really is a hassle. Thank goodness there will be Hobby Lobby and CFA right? :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move!
ReplyDeleteI was always so happy to be back in the States.
Yay! So happy for you! Wishing you and your family safe travels. :)
ReplyDeleteWe leave Hawaii for California in 3weeks! People say all the time...BUT YOU LIVE IN HAWAII THAT'S AMAZING!!! They just don't understand. It's beautiful and the weather is nice...but that's about all. The traffic is terrible, the weather is ALWAYS the same, EVERYTHING is crazy expensive, ehh I could go on and on. Like you, I can't wait for road trips that put me in another state, Chick-Fil-A, Dunkin Donuts, gas stations that don't scare me, restaurants that serve beer and fries and a burger not made out of Kalua Pig or spam...I could go on and on about that too! lol. Anyway...Good luck in your move and enjoy Georgia!!!
ReplyDeleteYay moving!! It'll be such a change! But it's a nice change. I wish you were slightly closer so we could get the girls together :P
ReplyDeleteYay for Chick-Fil-A! Im jealous about that! I love Hawaii, we are here for at least another year and a half and we if we cant get back to the East coast then I wouldnt mind staying here. Have a good/safe trip!
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! We are heading to Ft Carson this summer. *fingers crossed the Army doesn't change their mind* Good luck with your move and flying with the little one!
ReplyDeleteYay! Again, if you need anything once you get here.. let me know! :) I can help you with neighborhood and area advice, hotels, etc.
ReplyDeletelucky you getting off the island!! happy for you girl!! Have fun on the mainland for us islanders here!

Congrats on moving! Chick-Fil-A is amazing. :)
ReplyDeleteI love PCSing, but couldn't handle dealing with an oversees move. So kudos to you, I am sure you will do great. I am here from the walkabout. We are currently stationed in GA, and the seasons are definitely here! We came from Cali, and there were no such things as seasons. It was a welcomed change.
ReplyDeleteEast coast-- YAYYYYYYYY!!! So glad y'all are going to be back nearby (ish)!! :)
ReplyDeleteYay!! Congrats!!! I know you are so excited about going back to the south and the mainland!
